Our Team
We are DesignCampWaterloo. We give digital design and its creators a place to think, collaborate, showcase, and grow. We do this because we love design, and because we also know that creativity, like all living things, needs space, time, and thought to thrive.
Adeel Khamisa
Project Manager
As DesignCampWaterloo’s head honcho, Adeel is in charge of managing and defining the roles of the team, as well as defining long- and short-term goals and the strategies to achieve them. Adeel has received his Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and, having taken a particular liking to media theory and communication design, is seeking his Masters in Rhetoric and Communication Design. Similar experience for FlexEd, an educational simulation program, and BOOYAH Baskets have taught Adeel well – he was deemed “Achiever of the Year” by Junior Achievement Toronto-York. Indeed, Adeel is fit to manage the DesignCampWaterloo team.
Majid Mirza
Community Advisor
As DesignCampWaterloo’s networker extraordinaire, Majid establishes strong community relations and support for Design Camp, both academically and professionally. Majid is currently seeking a degree in Arts and Business, majoring in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and specializing in Digital Arts Communication. His knowledge of the design field and conceptualizing design projects comes from former roles that include Digital Media Tutor at Seneca @ York, UX experience coordinator at Microsoft, and Project Manager with ACE Waterloo. Priding himself on “talking less and doing more” (even though he likes to talk a lot), Majid is one busy man!
Don McKenzie
Web Developer
As DesignCampWaterloo’s creative and technical wunderkind, Don stealthily combines his passion for design with his knowledge of web development. Don is working towards a degree in Arts and Business, majoring in Economics, and specializing in Digital Arts Communication. Don’s experience working on the multimedia team at Research in Motion (RIM), the marketing department at UW, and freelancing on the side (www.donmckenzie.ca) have prepared him well for his DesignCamp experience. In his spare moments, Don can be found zooming around town on his motorcycle or peacefully cruising the water on a sailboat.
Allison Rittenhouse
Website Coordinator
As DesignCampWaterloo’s go-to gal for website issues big and small, Allison has helped create and maintain www.DesignCampWaterloo.com, and is essential to fostering the team’s external communication. She is currently working towards a degree in Arts and Business, majoring in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and specializing in Digital Arts Communication. Allison has lent her technical savvy to various organizations, including the Ontario University Equestrian Association (also a personal passion of hers) in designing their website www.ontariouea.com.
Stephanie Frisina
Copy Writer
As a DesignCampWaterloo wordsmith, Stephanie has helped write everything from website content to marketing materials. Currently seeking a degree in Arts and Business, and ambitiously double-majoring in Speech Communications and English Rhetoric and Professional Writing, Stephanie’s experience on the team has helped broaden her knowledge of design issues and brand marketing strategy. Previous professional experience includes work for the Ontario Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal (PIR) in Issues Management and Media Relations, as well as multiple television, radio, and newspaper interviews through her involvement with “Take our Kids to Work Day.” Eager and energetic, Stephanie is always up for a challenge.
Katie Dunfield
Copy Writer
A DesignCampWaterloo ink slinger of the fussiest sort, Katie has worked towards the creation of the DesignCamp website and marketing materials. Currently after a degree in Arts and Business, majoring in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing, and specializing in Digital Arts Communication, Katie is painfully close to graduation. Her experience as a marketing writer, technical writer, and freelancer has served her well – and turned her into a proofreading machine. When not writing, Katie can be found at the local record shop.
